U.S. Space & Missile Defense Command Deploys Video Wall Processors in Briefing Rooms

The U.S. Army Space & Missile Defense Command (SMDC) provides global missile defense and support to U.S. military branches and multinational Allies against missile attack. Its mission is to enhance deterrence and detection of intercontinental ballistic missile attack. SMDC has co-headquarters at Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, Alabama and Peterson Air Force base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With a global web of satellites, both facilities provide complete, continuous worldwide surveillance and monitoring 24/7.

The SMDC facilities at Redstone Arsenal and Peterson AFB have recently upgraded their classified briefing rooms with new, state-of-the-art display and video teleconferencing technology. SMDC contracted with integrator, M3 Technology Group, based in Nashville, TN, to deploy RGB Spectrum’s leading-edge MediaWall® V 4K UHD multi-screen display processor for the rooms’ new video wall systems.

SMDC’s briefing rooms are used for Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communication System (JWICS) video teleconferences and DoD Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) network presentations. Each facility’s briefing room is equipped with a MediaWall V 4K processor for real-time display onto a 2 x 4 LCD video wall array.

The MediaWall V receives input from a wide variety of sources: multiple laptop PCs (up to 17), document cameras, local video teleconferencing cameras, external video teleconferencing feeds, HD cameras placed in multiple locations throughout the briefing rooms, and set-top tuners. MediaWall V consolidates these disparate sources, instantly scales them to the desired resolution, and displays them in windows of any size, anywhere on the wall array. Up to 60 user-customizable presets can be selected to change the video wall display layouts.

RGB Spectrum’s XtendView fiber DVI extenders are also installed for long distance transmission of video signals across the facilities’ fiber-optic networks, sustaining optimal image quality end-to-end.

According to Allen Brooks, Senior Account Manager at M3 Technology Group, “MediaWall V was the chosen core wall processing system for many reasons. Firstly, MediaWall V’s field-proven 24/7 operational reliability was essential for this mission-critical, classified application. Secondly, MediaWall V delivered on a key requirement to provide real-time, dynamic display window scaling with imagery that could be any size, anywhere on the video wall canvas. It’s 4K UHD capability met another key requirement. Lastly, MediaWall V offered the desirable ability to instantly revert to any one of many window display layouts on the wall.”

M3 Technology Group, based in Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee, specializes in audio visual systems integration and managed services. M3 provides AV and IT consultation, design, build, and installation services.

Offering unsurpassed real-time performance, clarity and reliability, RGB Spectrum’s MediaWall display processors are an ideal choice for mission-critical applications.
